“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” – Jawaharial Nehru
Henna is an ancient, yet temporal beauty ritual with enduring traditions and patterns. Henna Trails’ henna is hand mixed from certified Organic henna leaves and quality essential oils for a purely natural and safe experience in body art. Henna patterns dry in 20 minutes, keeping the paste intact at least 4-8 hours will reveal deep henna stains. Henna stains all healthy skin types with a red brown tone and lasts 7-10 days. Walk in beauty.
Earthdance is an annual Global Peace Party, music and dance events around our world. Social activism since 1997. In Chico, California, it was the 9th annual Chico Earthdance. Featuring performances from Alli Battaglia and the Musical Brewing Company, Los Caballitos de la Cancion, Soul Union, The Electrified Redemption Project, Lost in Outer Space, and Chico West African Drum and Dance, interactive painting, local artists and producers in Cedar Grove, Bidwell Park one Sunday afternoon. We artists circled at the edge of the oaks in Cedar Grove, one of my favorite festival spaces ever…this park is pure Chico magic.
This is for all of you inspired by the natural beauty which surrounds us, inspires us and offers us a healthy lifestyle. Here, we are never far from volcanoes, canyons, creeks, valleys, impossibly large sprawling oak trees and plenty of sunshine allowing for a simple lifestyle full of beauty. We work with our hands, carefully turning out artistry to bless the wearer and recipient, it’s what we love to do for you. We believe in the natural beauty of you. What can we do for you?
All the beautiful jewelry is made by Jenmoon Creations. Our friend, model and potter is California Soulshine. Photography by Sasha Fox. Purely natural henna by yours truly, Henna Trails.
One afternoon last January I took a ride downtown to the La Rocca Vineyards Organic Wine Tasting Room to provide henna artistry for a beautiful and intimate wedding. Henna, or mehendi as part of marriage rites is an enduring tradition, and mehendi is applied for many celebrations in India. Mandalas were chosen for their hands, a classic India style motif. Mandalas are sometimes thought to represent the universe or the cosmos, mandalas are also some of my favorite motifs for henna.
I love this wedding henna photo, the atmosphere is completely steeped in Chico, California! Life up here in Northern California is relaxed and casual, we’re all striving to live as one with nature, and that has a profound effect on our community. Purely natural henna is a marvelous compliment to our local lifestyle, even if the henna plant doesn’t grow here! I’m here to cultivate henna as adornment just for you, what inspires you?
It’s winter and the solstice has come, I love the winter light, so angular and low, it picks up details that get lost when the summer sun shines from above. To keep the cold away, we tend a fire in our ultra efficient wood stove and life slows down alot.
I like to take this time to practice henna, the designs I really crave, the designs all the rage worldwide, and concepts especially geared toward my upcoming market season. I recently joined instagram and it has been intensely inspiring for me, I really appreciate photography media sites. I am amazed at how our world uses henna, there seems to be endless creativity and expression.
I have admired khaleeji style henna for years, it’s a style I would most likely wear myself. Instagram has enabled me to view so many current khaleeji stye henna photos. I am practicing the designs so I may be able to go on and create my own designs in this style. I tend to do alot of small or casual hennas, many designs I admire are too complex for my market, so I pick a few elements and combine them into something new.The designs at times appear to literally move across and bloom upon the hand, with so much grace and movement. I have tried to capture that grace for years, it always escaped me, my mind’s eye could not work with my hands and muscle memory. I engaged in a series of henna sessions using expired paste on paper, repetitions at first, moving on to hand templates later and seeing how, after a dozen pages of finished templates, certain elements flow more naturally. Henna breakthrough, epiphany, and the next series reflects that new muscle memory and I am so psyched. What feels like, and really is, years of study comes together.
Please join me and other local Chico, California artists for an art market Sunday December 22, at 601 Orange Street from 12-6pm. I will be offering complimentary henna with purchase from my shop. A rare offer. See you there!
These festival styled motifs are inspired by my henna pattern e-book, “Henna Chic”. These simple, yet unique pattern styles are inspired by Eastern decorative arts. You may purchase this book at payloadz, click this photo.
Keep in touch with Jigna Publishing on facebook for more henna pattern e-book releases from a variety of henna artists across our world.
In other art related news, I have a new linoleum block and cutting tools to work with. I am pretty excited to get back into this, although I really need to finish up my new design book before I start yet another art project. So many projects and only so much time!
I have turned in my weekly market application and fees for this coming season at the Thursday Night Market in downtown Chico, California. Every Thursday from 6-9pm April to September I have the opportunity to connect with my community. Such good times! I am back for my 4th year, thank you Chico for all your support. Hennaaaa. ♥.
